FAQs

Q?WHO ARE WE?
A.

We are a non-denominational congregation affiliated with other churches of Christ and
Christian churches whose background is in the restoration movement which occurred
in this country in the 1800’s with a plea to simply be Christians with the Bible as our
rule of faith and practice. We pay no allegiance or assessments to any denominational
headquarters, and our affiliation with other churches and para-church organizations is
voluntary.

Q?WHAT IS THE LORD’S SUPPER?
A.

The Lord’s Supper is observed weekly as part of the worship services. It is open to all
obedient believers in Christ regardless of their church affiliation, because it is a time for
personal remembrance of what Christ has done for sinners in His sacrifice on the cross.

Q?WHAT IS BAPTISM?
A.

Salvation of mankind was the driving purpose behind Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and
resurrection from the dead. The Bible teaches that we come to that salvation through
stated faith in Christ as the Son of God and Savior of mankind, repentance from sin,
and baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For this reason, we do not baptize infants or children too young to understand sin and
repentance.

Q?WHAT IS WORSHIP LIKE AT SMYRNA CHURCH OF CHRIST?
A.

Our weekly worship begins with songs of praise and celebration, followed by a
message from the word of God, a meditation and the Lord’s Supper. We then have
another meditation followed by an offering (if you are visiting our church, please do
not feel obligated to give an offering). Then we end our services with more praise and
celebration.

During our worship hour, we offer junior church for small children and a nursery for
infants. Please feel free to include your children in these programs.

Q?WHAT BIBLE STUDIES ARE OFFERED AT SMYRNA CHURCH OF CHRIST?
A.

We have classes for adults, small children and teens each Sunday morning. This is
a time where we, as Christians, gather together to study the word of God not only to
strengthen our relationship with Him, but also to prepare for the worship hour that
follows. Various Men’s and Women’s Bible studies are available throughout the week.
